Office Administration

Course Objectives

The objective of the course is to familiarise students with the office environment; to acquaint them with office technology and to train them in office procedures.

Who should attend

This course is open to any person who is currently working or hoping to work in an office environment. There is no insistence on any formal qualification since the course has been structured to facilitate easy access.

Course Outline

This 24-hour course examines the attributes and functions of the office worker with the view to preparing the student for the work-place. Students are exposed to the theory of office administration as well as provided with the opportunity for practical experience.

  • Attributes of the office worker
  • Telephone etiquette
  • Etiquette in the work-place
  • Maintaining a filing system
  • Handling mail
  • Maintaining a diary
  • Arranging meetings and appointments
  • Arranging conferences
  • Making travel arrangements.

 

Assessment and certification

Students are assessed on the basis of class tests and assignments and a final examination.
Assignment 1 -- 20%; 2 x Class Tests -- 40%; Final Test – 40% Pass mark is 50%

Outcomes

At the end of the course students should be able to perform the above-mentioned
functions with confidence as well as possess the necessary know-how in setting up an office.
