Step 2: Submit Supporting Documents

• All applications must be submitted online (except otherwise indicated in the list of programmes)
• Advanced Diplomas will be displayed under Postgraduate studies on the self-service platform.
• Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee a place, as the University has a specific number of places as approved by the Department of Higher Education and Training and is subjected to a selection process.
• CPUT reserves the right to verify documents for authenticity
• Prepare your supporting documentation that is required and save it before you submit your online application.

Take note of the following important information:

• All documentation must be certified (certification may not be older than 3 months)
• Please ensure that all uploaded documents are less than 2 MB in size, and in JPEG, PDF, TIFF or GIF format.
• Save the documents separately
• Please do not upload documents saved in MS Word or MS Excel format
• Save each document separately in the above formats.

• Minor applicants, not yet 18 years old at the time of application, must submit a minor declaration signed by their guardian/parents.
• No application will be processed without this document.

Some programmes require students to submit additional information as part of their application and in addition to the supporting documentation listed above.

Applications without the additional requirements will not be considered.

Some important notes applicable to this application category:

• A certified copy of the first page of your Identity Document or Birth Certificate.
• A certified copy of your Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification. If you are currently in Grade 12, please submit your marks obtained in Grade 11.
• Certified copies of the original Academic record and Certificate of Conduct, or certified copies of other certificates/ diplomas/ degrees you obtained previously from any other higher education institution.

Some important notes applicable to this application category:

• Certified copies of the following applicable documents (must be less than three (3) months old)
  1. Permanent Residency applicants: Passport and Proof of Permanent Residency/SA ID Document/Card
  2. Refugee/Asylum seeker temporary permit/formal recognition of refugee status in the RSA
  3. Passport
• A certified copy of your school-leaving certificate, together with an English translation.
• Congo-Brazzaville applicants must submit the Liste des Admis au Bac together with an English translation of the document.
• Democratic Republic of Contro applicants - Sixth-year Bulletin: Diplom D’Etat and Journal and transcripts of results or Journal or Confirmation of Results from the Embassy.
• Angolan applicants must submit their Portuguese results together with an English translation of the document/s.
• Applicants with results from Gabon, Cameroon, Bangladesh and Burundi countries must submit their French results together with an English translation of the document/s
• ALL ENGLISH-TRANSLATED CERTIFICATES MUST HAVE A SWORN TRANSLATOR STAMP
• International/Foreign Post-Basic Nursing applicants need to submit a document indicating approval of nursing qualifications from, and certified by, the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA), in order to be provisionally accepted. Full acceptance will only be considered if the applicant also submits proof of temporary registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) for two (2) years, in addition to a valid study permit.
• Any other documents specifically required for the programmes to which you are applying are listed above under the header: Additional admission requirements.

All international undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications obtained must first be evaluated and verified by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) before submitting applications for studying at CPUT.

The onus is on the student to apply timeously to SAQA, as this may take a bit longer. From 1 August 2014, SAQA will only accept online applications for the evaluation of foreign applications. Please click here.

An applicant may qualify for admission based on qualifications obtained outside the RSA, whether they are SA citizens or not.  Each case will be dealt with on an individual basis.

• School leaving certificate should be submitted with the English translation of the certificate
• SAQA Evaluation certificate (see SAQA information outlined above) is mandatory and must be submitted together with your application

SA citizens who are holders of foreign/international certificates (e.g. Cambridge International Examinations) can be admitted ONLY IF they meet the minimum requirements for studying at a university in South Africa, and in addition, meet the minimum admission requirements of the programme they are applying for (according to the faculty-specific requirements).

Each case will be dealt with on an individual basis.

SAQA Evaluation certificate (see SAQA information outlined above) is mandatory and must be submitted together with your online or paper-based application.

Your application is evaluated based on your results as published by the Department of Basic Education in January of this year.

Please submit:

• a letter confirming registration for the upgrading of your results from the institution where you are busy upgrading your results
• Any results/qualifications obtained as part of your upgrading process

• Do not send any original documents, only send certified copies must be attached to your manual application form. Copies of documents can be certified at a police station.
