Entrance Requirements
A diploma or degree in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent qualification recognised by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. A minimum of two (2) years clinical experience in Mammography.
Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). In the event of an international applicant, registration with the statutory body of the specific country.
Target Audience
Diagnostic Radiographers (minimum of 2 years' experience post community service year)
*Note: The HPCSA approved the course as a short learning programme.
Assessment and Certification
- The course will consist of a theoretical and clinical subject.
- Subject 1: Mammography Physics and Instrumentation
- Subject 2: Mammography Clinical Practice
- Practical requirement: A Total of 155 essential mammograms; therefore, 640 hours/+- 5 months of clinical hours must be logged in the Mammography department.
- Students must have an appointed Qualified Mammographer or Radiologist as a supervisor.
Course Structure
Health and safety regulations, ethical principles, guidelines and codes of practice. Safety, Mammography physics, image acquisition, storage and manipulation, Quality assurance, Breast Anatomy, Breast pathology, Medico-legal aspects and AI in Mammography.
