Entrance Requirements
A diploma or degree in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent qualification recognized by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. A minimum of two (2) years' experience in Computed Tomography (CT) or already working as an MRI radiographer. Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). In event of an international applicant, registration with the statutory body of the specific country. Clinical placement at an MRI unit for minimum of 5 months/ or 600 clinical hours.
Target Audience
Radiographers *Note: The course is registered with the HPCSA as an additional qualification.
Assessment and Certification
- The course will consist of a theoretical and clinical subject.
- Subject 1: MRI Physics and Instrumentation
- Subject 2: MRI Clinical Practice
- DP: requirement: A Total of 600 hours/+- 5 months must be logged in the MRI unit.
Course Structure
Images principles and Physics of MRI. MRI Instrumentation. Pulse Sequences. Imaging Parameters. MRI artifacts. MRI Design and installation. MRI Safety. Patient care and management. MRI procedures: Head & Neck, Spine, Thorax, Abdomen, Pelvis, Musculoskeletal. Advanced MRI procedures e.g. MRA, Cardiac MRI, Functional MRI, Diffusion-Weighted Imaging, Spectroscopy. Human rights, ethics and medical law for healthcare practitioners. Management principles.
