Sport, Arts & Culture
The Sport, Arts & Culture Department is part of the Student Affairs Division and is an official entity responsible for regulating, organizing, and coordinating student sports and cultural activities within the institution. It was established to represent and protect the sporting and cultural interests of students on all campuses based on the principles of unity, accountability, non-racialism, non-sexism, and democracy.
Sport and Culture have a significant role to play in the holistic development of CPUT students. It promotes essential aspects in student life that encourage friendship, fair play, teamwork and cooperation among students who will one day occupy responsible key positions in various industrial fields. It creates an opportunity for youth leaders to meet and foster lasting friendships, which contribute to the development of a unified institution and serve as an ideal vehicle for promoting mutual understanding amongst students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Its core business is to maximize student participation and encourage sporting and cultural practice in harmony with and complementary to the institution's academic character and values. All offered programmes are structured to facilitate and improve opportunities for students to acquire the necessary sporting and cultural skills to compete at various levels.
The Department of Sport, Arts & Culture offers both competitive and recreational sporting codes on all campuses and caters to all types of sportsmen and women. In addition to providing 23 competitive sporting codes, we also offer information and workshops on healthy lifestyle issues such as healthy eating, how to overcome addictions, weight loss programs, and stress relief.
