Campus Health Clinics
Our Campus Health Clinics provide primary health care services to registered students of the University. We also provide a limited service to CPUT staff. Our focus is the promotion of healthy lifestyles and the prevention of illness. We provide a professional, discrete health care service that follows World Health Organisation practices and guidelines. The clinic is run on an appointment based system. Our vision as Campus Health Services is to be an accessible, affordable centre of holistic healthcare and education, promoting total wellness.
Mission
Our mission is to ensure medical practice by our code of ethics, to maintain confidentiality at all times and promote health as stipulated by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Our approach, in line with the WHO, is to treat our clients holistically i.e. physically, mentally and emotionally. By this, we wish to achieve client ownership to total wellness.

Services
Services for students
We offer the following services to registered students:
- general medical consultations plus the issue of basic medication
- attending to minor ailments: eg. colds, sore throats, diarrhoea
- reproductive health methods (prevention) including the morning-after pill
- HIV counselling and testing (VCT)
- nutritional and counselling support for HIV-positive students
- treatment of sexually transmitted infections
- TB-DOTS supervision
- wound dressings and assistance with minor injuries
- health education programmes.
Services for staff
We offer the following services to staff members, by appointment:
- assistance with reproductive health methods
- blood pressure checkups
- voluntary counselling and testing for HIV.
- nutritional and counselling support for HIV-positive staff
Note that registered students in the employ of CPUT doing in-service training are considered students.
Clinic Procedures
Student healthcare services are only available to students currently registered at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Attendance at all our clinics is by appointment only.
Students must provide identification when making and coming for appointments. They will not be attended to without a valid, current CPUT student registration card or proof of current registration with an identification document (green ID book or passport).
Please note:
- When making an appointment, students should state their medical symptoms clearly, to ensure appropriate medical management.
- We reserve the right not to attend to students who are late for appointments.
- Cellphones must be switched off when entering the clinic.
Medical emergencies procedure
An emergency is a life-threatening situation where a person
- is bleeding profusely
- is semi-conscious or unconscious
- is having an asthma attack
- is having an allergic reaction
- is conscious, but finds it difficult to move.
These situations do not require an appointment. Should you be the person to contact the clinic when facing such a situation on campus, remember to give as much detail as possible.
- Say where you are located.
- Say what happened.
- Give a contact number and name.
Injury on duty treatment procedure
Medical attention will be given to members of staff employed by CPUT who have sustained an injury while on duty. The Employers Accident Report form must be comprehensively completed. The clinic will:
- assess and manage each case as presented
- refer the patient to a doctor/ hospital
- where necessary, call an ambulance to transport the patient to hospital.
Note that registered students in the employ of the CPUT doing in-service-training are considered students
