Academic Staff Development Unit
The Academic Staff Development Unit supports university lecturers in planning, facilitating, and evaluating teaching and learning in higher education. Academic Staff Development Unit works with faculties, academic staff, and academic administrators at CPUT as they join the university, establish professional trajectories, and move through various stages of review, promotion, and growth. The aim is to expand the university teachers’ awareness of the various tasks they must undertake to contribute to the effective education of their students and the accomplishment of the CPUT’s objectives. The unit offers the following programmes that runs throughout the year:
- Teaching Development Programme (TDP), which is a non-formal CPUT certificate programme for new academic staff at CPUT. TDP is aligned with V2030 and framed along the dimensions of ONENESS and SMARTNESS.
- SoTL Programme, which is a two-year in-house programme aligned to Vision 2023 and framed along ONENESS and SMARTNESS. The aim is to apply the principles of the scholarship of teaching and learning to departmental pedagogical and curricular initiatives for the enhancement of student learning.
- Academic Leadership Programme, which is an in-house programme aimed at developing leadership skills for academics in management position within the university.
The unit also offers academic development workshops on topics that range from teaching strategies to assessment strategies, assessment techniques, assessor training, interactive teaching strategies, mentoring new staff, presentation skills, and scoring rubrics.
The Academic Staff Development Unit consists of well-versed staff members who are eager to serve the CPUT community.
