The CPUT Smart Internationalisation Strategy was completed in 2019. The Smart Internationalisation Strategy underpins internationalisation collaboration and networking as well as providing a road map to becoming a global player in the changing world of information and knowledge. CPUT defines smart internationalisation as:
‘CPUT’s commitment to the strategic value of our internationalisation efforts in achieving and sharing our advancements in technology and innovation, and collaboratively blurring the lines between ourselves and our partners in the achievement of multi-cultural and intra-international communities of practice for mutual beneficence and sustainability of the global environment.’
This supports ONE SMART CPUT’s two dimensions of smartness as technology-enabled and human-centric to ensure our relevance and excellence through 4IR and in support of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (2030). Smart internationalisation is our recognition of the value of internationalisation in the development of the new CPUT strategy, ONE SMART CPUT with the following purpose:
‘To develop a multi-cultural community by building capacity in our teaching and learning, research, technology and innovation and engagements, students and staff as global citizens in preparation and participation of a global world by means of improving the quality of education in support of Vision 2030.’
CPUT, as an internationalised university, is characterised by the development of a multi-cultural ecosystem to provide an educational experience that prepares our students, at all levels, for a globally interconnected environment.
The strategy identifies three components for smart internationalisation: Inbound internationalisation, outbound internationalisation and internationalisation of the curriculum, to enrich the CPUT academic and research community through internationalisation value. To that end, the CPUT Research Focus Areas provide a high-level summary of the CPUT research strengths.
