Call for abstracts: African Biotrade Festival 2023

The ABS Compliant Biotrade in South(ern) Africa (ABioSA) in partnership with government departments, national and international partners are planning to host an African biotrade festival in September 2023. The primary purpose of the event is to create a platform that will spotlight “the new story of Africa” in the biotrade sector. The focus will be to highlight our indigenous ingredients and products, companies and support institutions in the Buchu, Baobab, Honeybush, Marula and Sceletium tortuosum biotrade value chains.

During the African biotrade festival it is planned to conduct various sessions/workshops that will discuss and address opportunities and challenges, with an emphasis on market access, sustainable use, innovation, compliance, building business support networks and creating linkages within the wider biotrade ecosystem. Research and Development will be one of the topics thus postgraduate students (Masters and PhD) will be supported to present their research project that is related to the biotrade sector through oral presentations or posters.

ABioSA would like to invite postgraduate students registered at an accredited Southern Africa higher educational institution (University or University of Technology) studying towards Masters’ or PhD qualifications and conducting research with a strong focus on practical application and solutions in the biotrade sector across both natural and human science faculties (please see attached flyer for further details). The call is open for Health, Natural, Agricultural, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Law as well as Human Science including broader aspects such as social sciences, economic faculties and development studies that can be applied within the sector. The attached document provides further information around the application process and closing dates.
