CPUT update and examinations

After thoughtful consideration of the most recent events of violence, intimidation and destruction on our campuses, the national situation, and our concern for the safety of students, staff and visitors on our campuses, we have convened an urgent Special Meeting of the Senate Executive Committee to consider the way forward that will allow us to complete the 2016 academic year.

Statement by Exco of Council

Yesterday the wanton damage to property at CPUT’s Bellville campus once again made headline news. The university is  aware of at least six cars being torched and countless other destructive acts taking place.

Classes remain suspended

Following the Stakeholder Meeting this evening a decision has been taken to keep classes suspended until further notice. Staff members must also continue working from home, unless they are based at an off-site venue. As usual please liaise with your line manager if you are unsure about your individual work arrangements.

The broad university stakeholder planning committee will meet at 18:00 this evening to receive feedback from the Council meeting of Saturday 22 October regarding Council's responses to the resolutions taken at the General Assembly meeting.

Warning about fake communiqués

We are aware of a number of fake communiqués purporting to be from the institution doing the rounds on social media and via whatsapp.

Based on a revised security assessment a decision has been made to keep classes suspended until further notice.
