Miss Universe and CPUT alumna, Zozibini Tunzi, received a warm welcome in Cape Town today with CPUT Vice-Chancellor, Prof Chris Nhlapo, thanking her for being proudly CPUT.

Tunzi attended a short meet and greet at the City Hall before addressing the hundreds of Capetonians who had gathered to welcome her to the Mother City.
“From the institution’s side, we are here to say thank you to Zozi for putting our name on the map. We know that she belongs to the world. One thing that is humbling and that we are very grateful for is that, at all times, she has indicated that she comes from CPUT. As an institution we are very proud of you,” said Nhlapo.

Nhlapo added that Zozi had set the bar high, adding that the hoped to welcome here back to CPUT one day. “It is our job to ensure that we create a conducive environment so that we can have other Zozis meet that particular threshold.”

Zozi jokingly asked whether classes had been cancelled for her homecoming. Her message to the “young Zozis out there” was to be confident in themselves.
“As a young Zozi I wasn’t that confident. I knew I had a voice but it was trapped somewhere inside there. When I think about myself being young I want to say ‘speak out more, the world is ready to listen’.”
