A total of 247 staff members, with an incredible 4 360 years of service to CPUT between them, were honoured at the Annual Long Service Awards.

Among them was Clive Galant who received a standing ovation from his fellow awardees when he received his certificate for 40 years of service.

Galant’s first day of work was on 18 January 1979 at what was then called the Cape College for Advanced Education.

He’s worked in various departments over the years and said his highlight was his role as photographer for the institution for nine years.

He now works as an admin assistant in the Centre for Innovative Educational Technology.

“I had a triple bypass in 2011 and in 2013 I had a severe stroke. I was at home for a year and a half but God brought me back. I’m thankful to the management of the university over the years. The university put food on my table. As CPUT staff members we must appreciate our work.”

The recipients also included Vice-Chancellor, Prof Chris Nhlapo and Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Technology Innovation and Partnerships, Prof Marshall Sheldon, who have served CPUT for 10 years and 20 years respectively.

“It is very important to say thank you. Thank you for the stellar performance and for work well done,” Nhlapo told the recipients.
