Honouring Women

PERSONAL POWER: Pasella host Paul Rothman gave guests a self-defense workshop

In honour of Woman’s Day female staff and students of CPUT were treated to an empowering session that worked on their spiritual, emotional and even physical well being.

Writer Malika Ndlovu set the tone for the day with her poetic storytelling detailing a woman’s journey while being accompanied on guitar by talented CPUT alumnus Lodi Paul Ingha.

POWERFUL: The Cape Speed students with poet Malika NdlovuAfter her Pasella host and TV personality Paul Rothman took to the stage and lifted the mood with a basic self-defense and personal power workshop.

As an expert in many martial arts disciplines including Thai boxing, Mauy Thai and karate Paul encouraged the women to re-think their safety, avoid dangerous situations and identify possible weapons and escape routes.

Wearing size 11 stilettos Paul showed the women five moves which can be used when one is under attack, these included the eye scratch, ear slap, elbow strike, head butt and bite.

Life coach and motivational speaker Ebrahim Waja took to the stage next and detailed the keys points to reprogramming your mind to succeed.
He defined goal achievement as a lawful process of telling the mind that one deserves what one wants as the mind is one’s most powerful possession.

The students who helped build and design the F1 car, Cape Speed, which recently travelled to the UK to compete at Silverstone were also on hand.
Other fun activities on the day included an instant photo booth, goodie bags and a delicious lunch.

Those who could not attend in person tuned into the event via a live broadcast streamed through the CPUT website.  More than 400 people watched the live broadcast on www.cput.ac.za/live
