MJL Olivier Library celebrates bumper arrival of new books

Visitors to the MJL Olivier Library on the Wellington Campus of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology can now enjoy a variety of new books and other media, thanks to the efforts of Africa Book Connection.

The books range in subject matter, from computer literacy to children’s fiction, and are worth at least R40 000 in value. They were donated by Van Schaik through Africa Book Connection with the aid of the Adele Searll Memorial trust. Africa Book Connection, also known as ABC, is a non-profit organisation that aspires to contribute valuable academic material to tertiary institutions. The organisation is run by a mother and daughter team, Dr Loveness Kaunda and Ms Taweni Xaba.

MJL Olivier Library Manager Michiel Moll took the initiative to make staff members aware of the new books by hosting a tea party on 23 April 2008. Acting Director Lydia Zingoni and the whole CPUT Academic Information Services Exco were also present to support this initiative.

Refreshments were served to guests, as they socialised with colleagues and browsed a wide range of creatively displayed books. The guests were also allowed and encouraged to borrow the books.

The AIS Technical Services and MJL Olivier staff have already completed the weary task of adding the new books to the system. The books are currently available for the use of the CPUT community.
