The aim of this qualification is to develop graduates with higher order cognitive skills, who possess a deeper knowledge and understanding in the field of business and information administration, so that they may apply specialist knowledge and skills, including research, within their respective work environments.

Admission Requirements

Advanced Diploma in Business and Information Administration (SAQA level 7) or other pre-HEQSF BTech in Office Management and Technology comprising a minimum of 120 SAQA credits or any other cognate BTech, Bachelors or Advanced Diploma in Business Administration or Information Management at SAQA level 7.

Relevant work experience is recommended. Furthermore, the department reserves the right to admit students on a competitive basis. Please note that this does not guarantee admission to the programme.

Professionals with work experience who want to obtain a formal qualification, can apply for access to the programme based on the RPL process. The RPL process will take into consideration previous qualifications, a minimum of 5 years of administrative or managerial work experience as well as additional knowledge and skills obtained.

Course Aim

Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management is designed for working HR professionals to strengthen and deepen their knowledge in the HR discipline by engaging a combination of high-level theories, concepts and principles (knowledge), with workplace processes and procedures in a range of contexts (practice) in order to develop intellectual independence and professional competencies, while embedding ethical conduct (professional engagement).

Admission Requirements

Admission criteria: 60% average of the final year subjects in either the Advanced Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree, and completed the introductory subject of Research Methodology from the following programmes:

• Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management on NQF level 7 consisting of 120 SAQA credits; or
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management on NQF level 7 consisting of 360 SAQA credits.
• Advanced Diploma in either Human Resource Development or Labour Relations on NQF level 7 consisting of 120 SAQA credits; or

Course Aim

The Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing programme aims to impart appropriate CPUT graduate attributes to students. It enhances critical and innovative thinking skills in the field of Internal Auditing through intensive modules that are technically adept with infused practical components in the modules. Modules aim to enhance graduate employability and develop competencies, which include identifying, analysing, synthesising, and critically reflecting on and addressing complex familiar and unfamiliar problems in the identified functional areas and applying evidence-based solutions and theory-driven arguments in internal auditing. Course Aim

The purpose of the Postgraduate Diploma in Management Accounting is to prepare candidates for a role as senior management accountants in the workplace. The qualification will equip learners with the knowledge and skills into the world of management accounting, both from corporate and public perspectives, with an emphasis on improving decision-making in a competitive environment. Learners will utilise the content learnt to solve complex managerial problems and support decision-making.

Course Aim

The purpose of the Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management is to prepare project management professionals in the South African industry to manage complex projects and programmes within a greater organizational portfolio. This will be achieved by strengthening their ability to think critically and by strengthening and deepening their knowledge of aligning project management methodology with business and corporate strategy and goals. Admission Requirements

A candidate will be considered for admission to this qualification if he/she is in possession of an appropriate HEQSF (NQF level 7) Advanced Diploma in Project Management or an appropriate pre-HEQSF BTech (NQF level 7) in Project Management or Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in a cognitive field and the average of the final year subjects is 60%.

The RPL process will be applied for adult learners and for candidates with no formal qualifications. In accordance with the national RPL requirements and the institutional RPL policy and practices candidates who submit a body of evidence of non-formal and formal learning will be considered for admission to this qualification. RPL applications will be dealt with on an individual basis.

Course Aim

The Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration is aimed at persons at executive level, such as Assistant Directors, Deputy Directors, Directors and Chief Directors in the public service. The qualification includes subjects that cover the core functions of management, namely corporative governance, applied policy analysis, financial management and accountability, human resource management and leadership, disaster management and development management.

High-level problem-solving, systems thinking, and innovation are threads that run through each of the subjects. There are two (2) electives, and the choice is between Development Management (related to economics) and Strategic Disaster Management. The qualification includes a research component in which students are required to conduct research on various organisational-related topics.

The qualification aims to regularise the professional development of public officials through a uniform and standardised management and leadership programme aligned to the management competencies, so that they may improve their performance and productivity in the public sector, and to contribute to meeting the national developmental goals of the country.

The purpose of the qualification is to offer a local, national and internationally recognised academic qualification in the Public Administration discipline with content that is relevant in terms of the South African and international social and economic needs. The content of this programme is rooted in well-founded academic research, and national and internationally benchmarked theory and practices. The programme recognises the need to foreground, understand relationships and linkages between and within the sub-frameworks in order to facilitate access to learning and to avoid duplication of learning already covered by other programmes within the university and other recognised higher education institutions in South Africa and abroad.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration the following admission criteria will be applied:

A candidate who has completed a 120-credit Advanced Diploma in Public Administration at NQF level 7 will be considered. Candidates who have completed the pre-HEQSF 120-credit BTech: Public Management or another qualification at NQF level 7 will be considered. Students who have completed a cognate degree at NQF level 7 in the Business field from another Higher Education Institution (HEI). Candidates may also be admitted through a process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This process takes into consideration the candidate’s previous qualifications, a minimum of 5 years of managerial work experience as well as additional knowledge and skills obtained through informal or non-formal learning.

Selection Criteria

Graduates who have an aggregate of 65% on the completion of the 120-credit Advanced Diploma in Public Administration at NQF level 7 will be considered. The minimum aggregate of 65% applies to those students who have completed the pre-HEQSF 120-credit BTech: Public Management or another qualification at NQF level 7.

Graduates who have completed a cognate degree at NQF level 7 in the Business field from another Higher Education Institution (HEI) will be eligible to apply for this qualification.

Candidates who do not meet the minimum requirement of 65%, but who fall within the range of 60-64% would be considered only if the minimum number of students upon enrolment was not met which includes the demographics of the student profile.

Course Aim

The aim of the Post Graduate Diploma in Retail Business Management is to enable working professionals in retailing and allied disciplines to systematically undertake advanced reflection and development of contemporary thinking, practice, and research methods in retail business management in an environment that is technology-driven.

The purpose of the qualification is to develop managers in the wholesale and retail sector who are in more senior levels than the chain and franchise store levels that are being catered for by the Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Retail Business Management.

Candidates with qualifications not related to Business and Management Sciences will be considered on a case-by-case basis. A candidate will also be considered for admission to this qualification if he/she is in possession of an appropriate pre-HEQSF BTECH (NQF level 7) or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF level 7) in Retail Business Management or in any Business or Management Sciences-related field. Candidates may also be admitted through a process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) - an instrument that accredits the acquired knowledge, competencies, and capabilities of a person, gained through informal and non-formal learning.

Upon successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma in Retail Business Management, the students may articulate upward (vertical articulation) into Public and Private Institutions offering the following qualifications:

• 17. Master’s Degree in Business Administration at NQF level 9; and

Upon successful completion of any the above qualifications, the students can enrol for a Doctoral Degree at NQF level 10..

Career Opportunities

The graduates of the PGDip in Retail Business Management could become entrepreneurs and own retail franchise stores or get employed as regional managers of chain stores, senior managers responsible for retail operations, logistics, retail buying. Graduates of this programme could also be employed in other specialised areas such as e-tailing, e-supply chain and so on.

Course Aim

The Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Taxation programme aims to impart appropriate CPUT graduate attributes to students, such as critical and innovative thinking skills in the field of Taxation through the theory-intensive modules, being technically adept through the practical components in the modules as well as enhancing graduate employability through teaching and learning using innovative and current scientific equipment. In addition, the programme aims to inculcate the culture of community engagement among students, through research projects that require interaction with the industry, that are relevant in addressing current industry issues.

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for this programme are an appropriate Advanced Diploma or Bachelor degree or equivalent NQF7 qualification with Taxation at third year level (NQF7) as approved by SAQA with 2 years of relevant experience or proof that the applicant is currently employed in a Taxation environment.

Non-HEQSF qualification(s)

BTech Taxation (NQF7) (or equivalent) with Taxation as subject, aggregate 60% in the year of study.

Non-HEQSF undergraduate degrees

BCom degree or equivalent (NQF7), with requisite Taxation 3 subject, aggregate 60% in the final year of study.

HEQSF-aligned Advanced Diploma(s) (NQF level 7)

Advanced Diploma in Accountancy (aggregate 60%) or equivalent with pre-requisite Advanced Taxation

HEQSF-aligned degrees (NQF level 7)

BCom degree or equivalent, with requisite Taxation 3 subject, aggregate 60% in the final year of study.

Other

Applicants in the possession of the designation General Tax Practitioner (GTP) at NQF level 7-8 of SAIT. For this designation the applicant need to have a NQF 7 qualification with 3 years relevant experience and completed evaluation examination through SAIT.

Candidates may also be admitted through a process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) - an instrument that accredits the acquired knowledge, competencies and capabilities of a person, gained through informal and non-formal learning and work experience.

Upon successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Taxation the student may articulate upward (vertical articulation) into Institutions offering the following qualifications:

This qualification is ideally for students who want to continue their career in the field of Taxation.

Upon completion of the qualification students will be able to be employed as Tax Practitioners and with more experience later Tax Advisors.

Students can apply for membership of the relevant professional bodies depending on their workplace requirements as stated by the specific professional body. Ultimately, upon achieving full professional body membership, graduates may elect to establish their private practices rendering Accounting, Taxation, consulting, and company secretarial services.

Learners would also be equipped to enhance their career and promotion opportunities at Government Departments such as SARS and Treasury.
