This qualification will prepare graduates for the changing workplace and provide them with higher-level knowledge and skills for occupational progression into middle and senior management roles. The Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration is aimed at persons at executive level, such as Assistant Directors, Deputy Directors, Directors and Chief Directors in the public service. The qualification includes subjects that cover the core functions of management, namely corporative governance, applied policy analysis, financial management and accountability, human resource management and leadership, disaster management and development management.
High-level problem-solving, systems thinking, and innovation are threads that run through each of the subjects. There are two (2) electives, and the choice is between Development Management (related to economics) and Strategic Disaster Management. The qualification includes a research component in which students are required to conduct research on various organisational-related topics.
The qualification aims to regularise the professional development of public officials through a uniform and standardised management and leadership programme aligned to the management competencies, so that they may improve their performance and productivity in the public sector, and to contribute to meeting the national developmental goals of the country.
