Postgraduate Diploma in Design (NQF level 8)

Students enrolling in this qualification will have already achieved a certain level of foundational and practical competence in their respective undergraduate design qualifications and industry. The postgraduate diploma introduces interdisciplinary awareness in preparation for further advanced studies at master's level or for advanced-level contribution as part of inter, multi, and transdisciplinary design teams in practice. This qualification speaks directly to CPUT Vision 2030 in preparing students for the complexity of fast-changing contexts.

Master of Design degree (from 2023- to be confirmed)

Master of Design Students will have the opportunity to select an area of specialisation that combines applied technology and innovation to address complex problems. As such, the topics in the design project will aim to further the development of professional, social, or industrial practice.

Master of Design graduates will have gained substantial knowledge in their specific field of practice and a theoretical understanding of the role of professional design practice as a contributing factor to the quality of the human condition. The proposed Master of Design programme responds to the CPUT graduate attributes, which focus on developing technological capabilities and foresight, resilience, problem-solving ability, and relational and ethical capabilities.

Doctor of Applied Arts and Design

A doctoral graduate will have a high level of overall knowledge in a specialised field of design and the competence to make a significant and original contribution to knowledge in that field. Product development and services and systems thinking are underpinned by advanced theoretical and applied knowledge.
