Industrial & Systems Engineering
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is a leader in offering industrial engineering education and technology, and we stand tall among the Industrial and Systems Engineering Departments at the Universities of Technology in South Africa. This department is the only Engineering Department in the Western Cape that offers ECSA-accredited Industrial Engineering technological education and a post-diploma Quality practitioner’s degree to the people of this province. Our students come from all over South Africa and internationally.
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering has highly qualified and motivated academics committed to research and innovation. The department is internationally recognised and engages in the highest quality teaching and research, benefiting our students, our Faculty, the Institution, the Western Cape and Southern Africa. Our graduates are popular in finding employment opportunities within the production, commercial and services industries.
Our competitive advantage is that we have the infrastructure to engage in commercially viable industry-related research projects. Our academics have the collective knowledge and experience to guide, motivate and direct our students through their undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. We are fully aware of the current industry needs, and we engage with our industry partners on a regular basis. Our staff are therefore encouraged to “sharpen” their skills and knowledge annually to stay abreast with challenging industry demands.
Someone wanting to study Industrial Engineering or Quality should be hard-working, innovative, and practically oriented. As an Industrial Engineering Technician/Technologist or Quality practitioner, you will need:
- To work as part of a team and have good social skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to overcome difficult academic and real-world challenges.
- To be highly IT literate, as much of your work will rely on using computers.
- To be highly motivated to achieve the challenging goals of this profession.
