DIGNITY AND COMPASSION MATTER MOST: The Centre for Diversity, Inclusivity and Social Change calls on the CPUT community to donate the items to the Thuthuzela Care Centres.

In honour of Mandela Day, the Centre for Diversity, Inclusivity and Social Change (CDISC), championing GBV, calls on the CPUT community to make a difference in the lives of sexual violence survivors.
CDISC Director, Brightness Mangolothi, notes that Nelson Mandela “reminded us that ‘What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others’”.
CDISC will donate the items to the Thuthuzela Care Centres, which provide urgent support to survivors who often arrive in moments of crisis without clothing, without essentials, and carrying deep trauma. “In these moments, dignity and compassion matter most.
“We are collecting donations of:
- Clothing – to restore dignity when survivors arrive with torn garments.
- Toiletries, towels, and face cloths – to provide hygiene and comfort after medical examinations.
- Snacks and refreshments – to sustain survivors and families during long hours of counselling and police procedures.
- Infrastructure support (roofing for outdoor areas) – to create safe, sheltered spaces for waiting and care.”
In this Mandela Day, CDISC invites everyone to join them in turning 67 minutes of service into lasting impact. “Every towel, every snack, every clean shirt is a step toward healing.
“Your contribution is more than a donation; it is a message of solidarity and hope. Together, we can ensure that Thuthuzela Care Centres remain places of safety, dignity, and healing.”
Donation drop-off points are Campus Clinics located at the Mowbray, District Six, Wellington, and Bellville campuses.
“Thank you for standing with survivors and honouring Madiba’s legacy through action,” Mangolothi remarked.
The drop-off due date will be Monday, 27 July 2026.
