She’s a familiar face at CPUT where she has been enchanting graduation audiences with her extraordinary singing talent since her early teens.

Now singing sensation Talitha Luiters, a third-year Business and Information Administration student, is receiving widespread acclaim and has earned national recognition.

She (with a team) is among the nominees for the SA Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) in the category Best Achievement in an Original Song – Telenovela for Skemergrond. She was also amongst the winners of the Netwerk 24 Smaakmaker Toekennings (Influencer Awards), where she scooped the category Musiek met Huisgenoot en Son (Music with Huisgenoot and Son).

“It was very unexpected because I was in a category with so many talented singers. I didn’t know how to feel. I thought that the competition was really tough and everyone deserved to be recognised. The fact that I was recognised for my work was a very, very big honour. It wasn’t always easy and I was glad to be recognised and grateful for my manager who has stood by me for more than 12 years,” she said about the moment she won the award.

Talitha, who hails from Atlantis, has been singing since the age of nine.

Some of her highlights have included singing the national anthem in front of a packed Cape Town Stadium before the Springboks’ clash with Australia on 23 August last year and meeting President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Union Buildings.

“What I see for myself in the future is stability and knowing that I did everything to achieve my dreams and goals in life.”
