CPUT is playing a key role in increasing the capacity of individuals and organizations to identify and solve South Africa’s water-related problems.
In July, the University’s Centre for Water Sanitation and Research (CWSR) will roll out a 5-day course in Integrated Risk Assessments in Catchments.
The course was developed by Dr Brian Delcarme from CWSR and Dr Jochen Wenninger from UNESCO IHE, with inputs from IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre and the Netherlands-based Wageningen University and the University of Twente.
Manuel Jackson from CWSR says the course is part of a number of continuous professional development courses currently being developed as part of capacity building in the water sector and is offered at the NQF 8 level.
The course is designed for graduates and professionals working in the area of catchments and who are involved in decision making regarding water resources, says Jackson.
The course, which will be presented by experts from CPUT and UNESCO IHE, offers a broad introduction to the science and practice of catchment risk assessment in various contexts.
Participants will also be exposed to a variety of interrelated disciplines that are the foundation of risk assessment, such as basic toxicology, policies and systems ecology.
On successful completion of this module participants will have the competence to understand the functioning of catchment ecosystems and the role risk-based evidence in policy making.
Manuel says the course will be presented at the CPUT Bellville Campus and will run from the 28 July 2014 to the 1 August 2014.
