The CPUT Mobile app has beaten FNB, Standard Bank and 12 other businesses to win the Best Enterprise Development App award at this year's prestigious MTN Business App of the Year Awards.
When the winners were announced recently at a gala event in Sandton, CPUT’s mobile app came out top in its category.
"This award is a validation of hard work by people across our institution and a recognition of CPUT’s leadership in mobile communications," says Lovemore Nalube, Head of Web Development.
“Receiving this honour from some of the country's leading mobile experts reaffirms how technology can serve and support the values of our institution."
This year, the awards focused on genre-related categories, instead of platform categories.
While the app competition is in its fourth year, previously developers could only enter apps that were developed in a certain time frame.
This year, however, saw the timeframe getting extended due to new categories being added.
Judges assessed product solution and design, creativity, usability and market impact, and long-term sustainability of the app when deciding on the winners.
Developed by Nalube and Ashley Jones, the Mobile App links one to a wide range of information and services such as course announcements, paperless meeting documents, examination results, prospectus, application status and much more.
Practically, it allows for CPUT services and information to be available at your fingertips.
The Mobile App has been intelligently customized and depending on whether you log on as a student, staff member or a member of the public, the app will show you tailored information.
