The Division of Student Affairs (DSA) welcomes all first-year students to CPUT! DSA is dedicated to supporting the students on their journey by enhancing their overall student experience. Led by Dean Nonkosi Tyolwana, the DSA aims to help you succeed academically while encouraging personal growth.

The Dean is available to listen to your concerns and advocate for your needs. DSA offers programmes and services across various departments, including:

  • Sports, Arts and Culture
  • Student Governance and Leadership Development
  • Residence Services
  • Student Counselling
  • Disability Unit
  • HIV/AIDS Unit
  • Campus Health Services

In addition to competitive sports, DSA provides workshops on health and well-being, covering topics like nutrition and stress relief, along with development programs in leadership and financial literacy.

DSA encourages you to feel welcome and supports you throughout your time at CPUT. Visit us at the District Six Campus, Administration Building, 5th Floor.

Stay connected by liking the DSA Facebook page or following us on X. For more information, contact DSA at 021 460 3395 or email deanofstudents@cput.ac.za.

Dr Melanie Swanson from DSA said: “We want to encourage first-year students to respect diversity, join clubs or societies, build positive friendships, and avoid peer pressure and risky behaviour. Becoming familiar with campus policies, including those related to gender-based violence (GBV), misconduct, pregnancy, HIV, etc, is essential.”

Swanson also urged the students who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, especially before exams or homesick, which is “normal,” to contact the student support services, such as counselling, campus health, or any other support services, which are confidential, and asking for help shows strength, not weakness.

DSA looks forward to supporting you on your journey!
