Thursday, 12 March 2026
Ensuring the security and safety of staff and students on campus is a top priority at CPUT.
The university has an active Campus Protection Services (CPS) that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The CPS is dedicated to safeguarding the university community and its property while maintaining order in accordance with university policies. The university employs professional security officers who are certified by the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).
These officers are responsible for enforcing university rules and regulations, investigating incidents, apprehending offenders of criminal activity, maintaining order, and protecting the institution's assets. They work in shifts that cover all campuses, ensuring that assistance is available at all times.
The CPS follows a straightforward yet comprehensive approach to campus security and safety. Its mission is to provide integrated and coordinated professional, effective, and efficient risk management and protection services to the students, staff, and visitors of CPUT. In exceptional circumstances, PSD personnel are authorized to take appropriate action necessary to maintain stability, safety, and security on campus.
