CPUT hosts SACDA meeting
ACADEMIC HEAVYWEIGHTS: Members of the South African Commerce Deans Association who attended the association’s recent meeting at the Cape Town Hotel School

The Faculty of Business recently hosted a meeting of the South African Commerce Deans Association (SACDA) meeting at the Cape Town Hotel School.
SACDA, an association of deans of commerce faculties in public universities throughout South Africa, holds biannual meetings in June and November in its member institutions.
The two-day conference was hosted by CPUT Dean of Business, Prof Mzikayise Binza, who is a member of the association.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic, Prof Anthony Staak presented CPUT’s major innovations such as the Nanosatellite and patented inventions such as the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and the Omega Caro-E capsules.
BankSETA CEO Max Makhubalo discussed the SETA’s roles and functions and the opportunities that it avails to higher education institutions.
Makhubalo said the SETA offers merit bursaries to students who study accounting, maths, computer engineering, economics and actuarial sciences.
The SETA also funds doctoral students to support its research areas as well as facilitating internships with employers.
During the conference, the association discussed its response to the expected changes to the subsidy for Commerce modules as well as a possible collaboration with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants
Discussions also included the possible revision of the SACDA Constitution with specific reference to the association’s role and implications for resources and future prospects to offer joint degrees.
