CPUT is the proud host of the annual Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education (MACE) conference, which is taking place at the Bellville Campus.

Close to 300 attendees from higher education institutions across South Africa are attending the two-day event and Vice-Chancellor, Prof Chris Nhlapo, officially welcomed them to CPUT via a video message.

“As Marketing, Communication and Advancement professionals you have a critical role to ensure that Higher Education remains relevant. We can never be ignorant to the changing environment around us. The desperate demand for Higher Education cannot leave us content and comfortable. I challenge you to find the synergies within this room to ensure that the vast majority of students are serviced appropriately while also ensuring the quality of the offerings remains on par with international standards,” he said.

This year’s theme is: Maximising Impact: Innovative Strategies for Transformative Higher Education Marketing, Communication and Advancement.

Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, founder of the non-governmental organisation, The Gift of the Givers Foundation, delivered the keynote address and spoke on the topic of Making education relevant in building South Africa together.

“Our country has fallen backwards in terms of ethics, compassion, professionalism, kindness and care. With faith and spirituality, we can deal with any challenges. It is the only source of positivity and hope. Once you have that, challenges are not going to go away. They’re going to keep coming but you'll be able to deal with that. Once you are able to deal with that, you’ll be able to make progress with everything that falls in front of you.”

He continued: “We want our universities to teach subjects that are relevant, that have a meaningful impact and no dead-end courses. So when the kids go to university, the chances of getting a job are much better”.

The event will culminate in the 2024 MACE Excellence Awards Ceremony, which will be held at Eureka Estate in Durbanville on 28 November.
