CPUT is now officially home to the continent’s first Competency Centre for Enterprise Resource Planning.
Launched this month, the Cape Town-based centre will run Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) training courses, which focus on integrated basic business processes used in a variety of fields such as accounting, procurement and manufacturing.
The centre features 25 computers which run on the SAP technology and is funded by the German Government and international company SAP. The project is implemented by German agency GIZ.
The erp4school project started in 2010 and according to Prof Mzikayise Binza, the Dean of the Business Faculty, CPUT has surpassed its training targets.
So far, CPUT has trained 344 lecturers as well 342 students across 26 universities and colleges in Africa.
One of the project coordinators at CPUT, Jerry Ansen, says more than 1 000 students on the continent currently have access to the program.
Ansen says the program has been integrated into the curricula of five courses in the faculty and that plans to include it into other courses are underway.
Representing the German government, Consul Anne Rehner says CPUT was the right institution to partner with and that the project will contribute to economic growth on the African continent.
