The remarkable women of CPUT were celebrated during a recent Women’s Month Wellness event, which explored the theme Crowned with Strength, Caring for the Carer.

Organised by the Human Capital Department’s Lifestyle and Wellness office, the event gave women employees the opportunity to unwind, be inspired and reflect on the topic of self-care.

Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, attendees embraced the theme by dressing in nude tones, with some completing their outfits with crowns

Ncediwe Qomoyi, Director: Human Capital, welcomed attendees and acknowledged the many hats women wear in their personal and professional lives – from being mothers and wives to counsellors, caregivers and peacemakers.

She encouraged women to prioritise their own wellbeing and to extend to themselves the same care, compassion and kindness they so readily offer to others.

The line-up included a range of inspirational speakers. Marietjie Beyers placed the focus on mindfulness, while Khanyisile Shozi and Cathy Cloete shared their powerful testimonials while the keynote address was delivered by executive leadership coach Naomi Kieswetter.

Lifestyle and Wellness Specialist Joycelyn Esterhuizen encouraged the women to put themselves first sometimes.

The day’s celebrations featured an exciting line-up of entertainment and wellness activities. Singer and student Talitha Luiters captivated the audience with her vocals, while saxophonist August West added a soulful musical touch to the occasion. Melanie Erasmus got attendees on their feet with an energetic salsa performance.

Guests were also treated to moments of relaxation and pampering by students from the Department of Wellness Sciences.

Adding a reflective element to the celebrations, Employment Equity specialist Lucina Reddy invited attendees to create their own personal self-care pledges, encouraging them to make their wellbeing a priority beyond Women’s Day.

In a message read out at the event, Vuyokazi Dwane, Senior Director: Human Capital, encouraged the women of CPUT to “please receive this moment that HC has put together as a moment to thank you for all that you do. Feel special and enjoy this day”.
