ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGY
ND: (national diploma)Graduates can register as professional architectural technologists in training with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession - SACAP. After two years of candidacy a professional practice exam is written, leading to registration as a professional who may work independently.
The architectural technologist is responsible for the application of construction technology in the architectural design process. The main activities associated with this field are the production of drawings, detailing, presentation of drawings, model making, site supervision and monitoring, elementary planning and design work, liaison with clients, engineers, municipalities, quantity surveyors and contractors. Entrepreneurial skills and experience enable the professional architectural technologist to competently handle small to medium size work independently.
