Operations Management

Welcome to the Operations Management Department. We currently offer the National Diploma, Advanced Diploma qualifications. These qualifications are designed to equip students with skills to understand what are the key areas of management concerned with designing and controlling the process of production and redesigning business operations in the production of goods or services. It further involves the responsibility of ensuring that business operations are effective and efficient in terms of using as few resources as needed and effective in terms of meeting customer requirements.

The operations management’s primary concern is planning, organizing, and supervision in the contexts of production, manufacturing or the provision of services.

Operations management as a profession plays a major role in the effective, efficient and economical management of any organization. These organizations can range from large to individually owned businesses.

Career opportunities

The Operations Management course offers national and international career opportunities for graduates. The variety of opportunities is virtually unlimited in this field. Graduates can choose from a wide variety of entry-level positions, e.g. as a trainee manager or a position in buying, logistics, supply chain, etc. Qualifications in Operations Management forms a base for further specialization in fields such as buying, banking, mining, manufacturing industries and so forth.

Qualification is about: strategic & capacity management of any organization’s operational processes such as supply chain, production & process flows as well as overseeing efficient production and ensuring quality control.

Major subjects: Operations management / operations techniques/ organizational effectiveness

Course Progress: Advanced Diploma in Operations Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management

Knowledge and skills: Value Stream Mapping, Problem identification/Solving, analytical thinking, various business skills to ensure the smooth flow of information and processes.

Career opportunities: Business analyst, Master production scheduler, Production planner, Operations analyst Materials manager, Quality control specialist, Project manager among other careers opportunities.

NB: OPS is an exciting career where there are a variety of issues to be handled; because of this, there is a lot of learning and progression involved. One's reliable skills can take debuting individuals to far-fetched roles like the CEO or the Director of an organization overdue course of time.
