Functional Foods and Research Unit (FFRU)

img omega caro eThe Functional Foods Research Unit (FFRU) was established in 2009 and is part of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Department of Biotechnology and Consumer Science. The FFRU’s aim is to translate results of research on essential fatty acids and micronutrients into new and improved functional food products or premixes with functional food characteristics for health promotion and disease prevention in South Africa. Contract and post graduate research is carried out.
