Postgraduate Certificate course in Computerised Tomography (PgCert/CT)

Course Objectives

  • Produce CT radiographers who will be clinically competent in a range of CT procedures.
  • Provide a solid academic base for understanding CT imaging.
  • Provide unprecedented clinical experience in order to contribute to a sub-specialist group of CT radiographers with a high level of skills and expertise.
  • Promote innovative thought in the acquisition, production and presentation of CT images.
  • Enhance interpretation of multi-planar images.
  • Develop knowledge on the safe use of CT equipment.
  • Provide the candidate with a high level of practical experience in imaging techniques.
  • Develop appreciation for the mechanisms involved in producing state of the art CT images of the human body.

Who should attend

  • Applicants who have a degree or diploma in Diagnostic Radiography.
  • Hold professional qualifications recognised by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology as equivalent to the diploma in Diagnostic Radiography.
  • Must be registered with the HPCSA.

Course Outline

  • Lectures will be conducted at CPUT and other venues.
  • Lectures are scheduled during working hours as well as after hours.
  • Training will take place at various CT departments depending on the CT capabilities and software available at such departments.
  • The course will consist of a theoretical as well as clinical component which will need to be completed by the end of the academic year.

Assessment and certification

  • One written open book examination
  • Completion of 4 case studies
  • Completion of 1 major assignment.
  • Completion of 3 essays.
  • Completion of one technical report.
