CAMARADERIE: All systems go for CPUT’s Convocation Annual General Meeting at the Bellville Campus tomorrow. CAMARADERIE: All systems go for CPUT’s Convocation Annual General Meeting at the Bellville Campus tomorrow.

The eagerly awaited Annual General Meeting of the CPUT Convocation will take place tomorrow and its highlight will be the election of the new president.

On the day, about 600 ‘Convocants’ are expected to timeously switch focus as the meeting’s agenda is packed with interesting items. The new president will succeed Bheki Hadebe.

The Convocation consists of the vice-chancellor, the deputy vice-chancellors, the registrar, former and present academic employees and all alumni of the University. This also includes Professors Emeriti and other retired academic employees who have been on the permanent staff in continuous employment for not less than10 years immediately prior to retirement.

The guests are expected to converge at the Major Sports Hall, Bellville Campus, from 9am to discuss, amongst other things, the president’s and Vice-Chancellor’s annual reports.

Senior Committee Officer, Lindie Jantjies, stated that the Convocation’s Constitution provides for a report on the financial statements of the Convocation, election of its president as well as nomination and election of the entire executive committee.

Jantjies added that the presidential candidates were asked three questions whose answers will be included in their biographies that will be given to all Convocants at the meeting.

Stemming from the Latin word, convocare, meaning to call and come together, the Convocation is an initiative of the Office of the Registrar. Convocants are beholden to honour the University’s traditions, remain connected and committed to CPUT’s future and discuss opinions on any matter relating to the University.
