The Department of Student Affairs (DSA) is a fully integrated student support service department aimed at developing the holistic potential of all students through excellence and maximum participation in the five main focus areas of its operation, namely: Student Development, Student Governance, Arts and Culture, Sport Development and Student Media.

The department provides its services to most of the CPUT campuses and many of its services are free of charge. Student Affairs has only one condition: that you respect the culture, gender, religion, sexual orientation, opinion, belongings and bodies of your fellow students.

So, join a club or student society. Come with us on one of our outings, tours or trips. Try a new sport, learn about student governance, get involved in leadership programmes or contribute to student media. You may never have these opportunities again.

Sport, arts and culture, student governance, student development and student media

Our sport development programmes provide the opportunity to compete at a local, national and international level.

We offer:

  • various different sporting codes
  • recreational sport days
  • inter-residential league competitions
  • developmental programmes
  • swimming and surfing lessons
  • self defense
  • hip-hop classes
  • coaching clinics
  • general well being information sessions.

Our arts and culture and student development programmes include:

  • adventure related experiential learning
  • diversity programmes
  • drama, dance and drumming workshops
  • environmental awareness campaigns
  • seminars
  • off-campus tours
  • leadership training
  • social responsibility outreach projects
  • sustainability projects
  • awareness raising concerts
  • life skills training
  • social events such as visits by well known artists
  • student media including a campus radio station and newspaper
  • a variety of student clubs and societies.

Our student governance responsibilities include:

  • the SRC
  • student leadership.

Communication and promotions

The DSA communicates with CPUT students, the broader CPUT community and the external partners via SMS, e-mail, Newsflash (internal CPUT only), posters, flyers and Facebook.  Be on the lookout for these mediums of communication so as not to miss out on any of our student events – check us on Facebook.
