Discussing the Flexible Degree Project with A/Prof Suellen Shay 
A/Prof Shay will lead a workshop with staff and share the aims, objectives and current findings of the Flexible Degree Project. This special project draws together researchers from UCT, CPUT, UJ and UF with the main aim of translating the Flexible curriculum policy into a framework for curriculum design that enables the appropriate placement, successful progression and the overall enhancement of South African graduates.

In this workshop with CPUT staff Suellen Shay, Karin Wolff and Jenni Clarence-Fincham will provide insights and feedback on their findings from the CPUT case study.

Writing Development Workshops with Mary Lea

Dr Mary Lea will be facilitating a training workshop with ECP lecturers on pedagogies that encourage and embed language, writing and learning in higher education. The following workshops will explore some of the following
• Develop ECP lecturer’s awareness about the relationship between language and writing and learning in higher education
• Raise awareness around how different types of texts are implicated in student learning (centrality of writing and textual practices in the process of learning)
• Raise awareness about kinds of learning resources students bring to learning environment and how this can be used in productive ways to assist students to gain access to disciplinary/subject or field of practice knowledge
• Support/encourage lecturers to think differently about pedagogic practice and how language, writing and textual practices are implicated irrespective to subject/disciplinary context
• Offer opportunities for ECP lecturers to apply this awareness to design lesson plans, subject outlines and/or pedagogic strategies
