Training: Background on Disability

To gain insight on where we are in terms of a society and environment that allow equal opportunities and equal access for persons with disabilities in South Africa, as well as what the next steps are, this training session looks to matters like:

  • South Africa pre and post democracy
  • Impairment and disability
  • Different perspectives on disability

Attention is also focused on the way forward considering:

  • the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (ratified by the South African Government)
  • the White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (approved by the South African Government in December 2015)
