ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGY

BTech: (baccalaureus technologiae)

A person achieving this qualification will be a competent Senior Architectural Technologist/Practitioner who can conduct relevant applied research and independently perform professional architectural services in technology and/or design and/or management in the public and/or private sectors or specialised fields within built environment.

Graduates can register as professional architectural technologists in training with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession - SACAP. SACAP. After two years of candidacy a professional practice exam is written, leading to registration as a profesional who may work independently.


Career Opportunities
There are three routes that a diploma graduate can follow. One is to apply for the Mtech: Architectural Technology. , secondly a graduate could apply at a traditional university for further studies and the third is to enter the professional workplace as professional senior architectural technologist, as described above.

The senior architectural technologist is responsible for the application of construction technology in the design process. The main activities associated with this field are the production of drawings, detailing, presentation of drawings, model making, site supervision and monitoring, and liaison with clients, engineers, municipalities, quantity surveyors and contractors. Entrepreneurial skills and experience enable the senior architectural technologist to competently handle small to medium size work independently.

In addition, there is a R 3000 online support levy payable by part time students, per year.
