ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGY (Full Time)

AdvDip: (advanced diploma)

The course aims to equip graduates to be senior architectural technologists capable of independently researching technological innovations, and performing professional architecture services in technology, design and management in the public and private sectors of the built environment. Graduates can apply to the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) for registration as Candidate Senior Architectural Technologists.

Course Offering:

The two-year blended programme is offered through block release. Students must be employed by SACAP registered Professional Senior Architectural Technologists or Professional Architects. Learning will be supported in synchronous and asynchronous online spaces, and students are required to visit the campus four times a year, for one-week Block release programmes, one week per term.


Career Opportunities

The Senior Architectural Technologist is responsible for the application of construction technology in the design process. The main activities associated with this field are the production of drawings, detailing, presentation of drawings, model making, site supervision and monitoring, and liaison with clients, engineers, municipalities, quantity surveyors and contractors. Once the necessary experience has been gained, the Senior Architectural Technologist is able to competently handle small to medium size work independently.

SYLLABUS & FEES

 

In year one, three subjects, totaling 50 credits, will be completed. These subjects are: Environmental Design 4, Architectural Literacy 4 and Architectural Practice 4.

In year two, the remaining two subjects, totaling 70 credits, will be completed. These subjects are: Architectural Technology 4 and Architectural Design 4.

A student can only proceed with year two subjects, on passing at least two of the three year one subjects.
